Monday Morning Conversations With Des

Des and I had the following conversation this morning.

D:  Where is your baby?
Me:  In my belly.
D:  Is it in your belly button?
Me:  No it's in my belly.
D:  Is it in your shirt?
Me:  No, it's in my belly.
D:  Where is it?  I can't see it.

I start to realize that Des is having some trouble understanding the concept that the baby is physically inside my body so I tried explaining it in this way:

Me:  You know when you eat food, it goes inside your body into your belly and you can't see it anymore?  Well the baby is in there but you just can't see her until she comes out when she is born.
D:  Mama, Dada is going to cut your belly to get the baby out?
Me:  No the doctor is going to cut my belly to get the baby out.  (He had previously asked me how the baby was going to come out of my belly and I kept it simple and said that the doctor will cut my belly open to get the baby out.)
D:  Is it going to hurt?
Me:  Yeah, but they will give me some medicine so that it won't hurt so much.
D:  Mama, I am not going to come to the hospital when you get your baby out because I don't want to see your ouchies.  I am going to stay here.
Me:  That's a good idea Bud because Ommy or Amamma will be here to watch you and Stella while Mama is at the hospital getting her baby out.  Once the baby comes out, you and Stella will come to the hospital to see the baby.
D:  Yeah, that's good!
